Merry Christmas - 20/12/11

During December the staff and pupils of Ganton School came together for a number of seasonal events. First the choir held a series of concerts at both sites, supporting the PSA Coffee Mornings, then they joined with Sirius Academy for an evening concert which was the first joint event between the schools. On 7th December the choir, looking very professional in their new blue t shirts provided by the PSA, hosted a Community Carol Singing event which was really well attended and supported by many people from the local community. All the preparation for these events was managed by teacher Vivien Mariau, who also sings with Hull Ladies Choir and we were lucky that they could join us for the community concert and perform a selection of seasonal songs for us.
Following the musical extravaganza thoughts turned to seasonal foods and Christmas Dinners were served at both the Primary and Secondary sites - special thanks to the wonderful cooks at Francis Askew and Priory kitchens who put on a splendid feast. The evening disco for our older students was a huge success, as was the annual visit to Santa's Grotto in our Stars class, where all the children have a chance to tell Santa how good they have been all year to secure their place on his 'Nice' list.
Most classes have had an opportunity to make a Christmas visit to one of the local attractions such as the reindeer at Southwood Farm, the cinema or the Winter Wonderland in Walton Street, but some have chosen to wait until after Christmas for a theatre visit.
On Monday 19th December it was 'Party Day' when the whole school gathered at the secondary site for a buffet lunch followed by a visit from Santa bearing gifts, courtesy of the PSA. It was a chance for the staff and children to mix, renew old friendships and make new ones, a chance for the primary pupils to try out the sensory rooms, the specially adapted cycles and the new class rooms. Most important of all, it was fun!
The last day of term is traditionally quite relaxed with communal singing in the morning, a leisurely lunch and a lively disco in the afternoon; this year was no exception and it is with great delight that we wish all our families a peaceful and merry Christmas and all the best for 2012.
